Our Mission

Our Mission has always been to provide quality nutritious flavorful bread and baked goods at accessible prices that leave people feeling good. Sourdough like many other fermented foods breaks down some of the harsh ingredient properties making it easier to digest and enjoy. The sourdough baking process is a labor of love, but worth it!

 How it began

With a fascination for sourdough, Matt taught himself the intricacies and meticulous process of baking the sourdough way. Prior to launching MAK with his wife Krystle, he spent years perfecting recipes and baking and establishing a baking routine that has now served our community since 2018.

Since then, Matt has formally studied at the San Francisco Baking Institute deepening his education for sourdough and learning new techniques and the opportunity to create other baked goods all with a sourdough starter base.

MAK is now Back Pocket Bakery

We’re excited to have Philip Toman (Matt’s brother) join as an owner to help us offer an expanded and more diverse menu at our downtown CDA storefront -  Back Pocket Bakery.

Phil joins the team with a strong culinary background spending many years previously working as lead sous chef for True Foods Kitchen in Phoenix, AZ. His expertise in the kitchen enables us to serve a delicious menu of sandwiches, pizza, toasts, and more.
